Connect ANY application with ANY Patient Administration System

More than 20 NHS Trusts have adopted Blue Prisms Technology

Trusts are continually looking at new ways to improve the patient experience, reduce unnecessary administration costs and unnecessary work, improve the accuracy of the information it holds, and to ensure that revenues are received for which the Trust is entitled.

This has lead to an increased adoption of new technology to focus on delivering benefits to both patients and staff including:

  • Self Service Kiosk to improve patient experience and patient flow, particularly relevant to new hospital builds
  • Digital Pens for field based clinical staff, increases number of patient visits, increases accuracy of data capture and reduces the workload of administrative staff
  • Clinical systems designed to be easy to use by ward based consultants and clinical staff including 18 week RFT applications and clinical portals
  • Digital Signage and patient information systems to improve patient experience
  • Bed Management Applications, designed to improve patient experience and optimise bed usage
  • The drive to ensure income is received for eligible activity, an example being to reduce the number of Did Not Attends (DNA's) through pro-active notification to patients of upcoming appointments

To deliver their benefits these example applications need to be integrated with the core trust applications and in particular the Patient Administration System (PAS). There are several issues which arise including:

  • There are numerous PAS vendors who provide solutions to the UK NHS market
  • Fully available APIs are not always available and integration can be costly and take significant time to be made available to the Trusts
  • Some PAS solutions are provisioned through Citrix front end, making integration on the Trust premises extremely difficult
  • Cost of ongoing support can be considerable

A good example of Blue Prism's healthcare solutions is the integration of self-service kiosks at the new QE II hospital in Birmingham.

"We were delighted with how quickly we got the data integration process working, and how we were able to design the process to fit within our security model" - Steve Chilton - IS Director, University Hospitals Birmingham

How Blue Prism Delivers Solutions to the NHS

We have developed a powerful new technology that enables rapid build, validation and execution of new solutions and integrations across multiple applications, systems and even departments, securely and directly into the PAS or any other on-premise or cloud based application. It is a true "integrate anything" capability which does not require any coding.

How has Blue Prism achieved this? We have developed an enterprise strength integration capability that re-purposes existing applications presentation layer as a service. This allows any application, regardless of technology or how it is provisioned, to be delivered as a service for any integration challenge.

Benefits include:

  • Rapid development and deployment through code free integration
  • Low cost integration - no need for PAS vendor supplied API's
  • Robust, secure, tried and tested approach - proven in numerous Trusts and aligned with Connecting for Health requirements
  • Integrate anything, regardless of how it is provisioned, on-premise or hosted
  • Integrate with any application regardless of what technology it was developed in, including Mainframe applications and applications provisioned through Citrix
  • Single Application - Blue Prism is an installed application developed in Microsoft .net and runs on industry standard technology which enables cost effective support
  • Full Audit capability - all interactions with existing applications that Blue Prism performs can be audited down to the individual key stroke and all changes to Blue Prism processes are fully audited ensuring strong governance and audit capabilities
