Blue Prism - Delivering Proven Solutions for Healthcare

The challenges facing the institutions that provide Healthcare for the UK have never been more acute. Faced with tight budgets, rigorous standards and performance objectives to meet, the professionals that provide IT support to the Healthcare teams are continually called upon to deliver complex and mission critical applications for patient care, administration and operational support.

The NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT), an initiative to move the NHS towards a single, centrally-mandated electronic care record for patients and to connect 30,000 General Practitioners to 300 hospitals, has delivered many benefits to the Trusts that deploy the technology. However it has also created significant integration challenges because of the protracted and potentially expensive process that has to be followed to integrate with local Trust systems.

Blue Prism has been working with pioneering Trusts delivering solutions that rapidly integrate local and national systems to deliver new, innovative and cost effective applications. A good example is the work that Blue Prism has been involved in at the new Queen Elizabeth II hospital in Birmingham where pioneering work has been done in the use of self-service kiosks.

To deliver this innovation required a rapid and cost effective integration with the NPfIT Connecting for Health funded patient administration systems (NPfIT PAS).  Due to the way PAS is provisioned to the Trust, it has meant that integration between the kiosks and PAS could not be economically provided. Additionally for the kiosks to work successfully they needed real-time integration. Blue Prism provided the integration capability that University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust needed and they have since added a number of other applications.

Blue Prism’s Integration Server technology is providing a vital component in the delivery of Destiny’s pen based solution for field based clinical staff,  providing an automated update to the NPfIT Patient Administration System, removing the need for manual re-entry of data and reducing administrative tasks, improving data accuracy and releasing more time for patient care.

Medalytix offers a unique automated screening system for detecting the early signs of diabetic eye disease (diabetic retinopathy). The solution delivers automated grading which is clinically validated and can be seamlessly integrated with existing patient management systems, either through published interfaces or through the Blue Prism Integration Server technology, allowing healthcare providers to introduce demonstrated cost-saving measures for the benefit of their patients and the wider community.
