BPinIA Honors Black History Month in the UK and Global Diversity Awareness Month

We're looking back at October by recapping two holidays that celebrate the importance of diversity. Black Professionals in Intelligent Automation (BPinIA) and Blue Prism launched initiatives in October, Black History Month Trivia and an employee spotlight series, to acknowledge its 1,000 employees from all over the world who help make the company one of the top intelligent automation software companies.

UK Black History Month Trivia:

1. When did the United Kingdom start celebrating Black History Month?

    The UK first celebrated Black History Month on October 1, 1987. Akyaaba Addai Sebo, a special projects officer at the Greater London Council, founded Black History Month after visiting the United States in the 1970s.

    2. Who, after three years of moving to England, formalized a Black History Celebration in the UK?

      Dr. Maulana Karenga. He is an American professor, activist, and author who created the African American holiday, Kwanzaa. The Greater London Council (GLC) hosted him at the Inaugural BHM in 1987.

      3. Who founded the Notting Hill Carnival, which is now Europe’s biggest street festival?

        Adanna Igbokwe. She is an experienced IT professional specializing in providing solutions in video conferencing and telepresence. She has worked as a technical consultant and engineer for Dell, Cisco, and Zoom.

        4. Who became the UK’s youngest and first black female book publisher?

          Margaret Busby co-founded the London-based publishing house Allison and Busby, in the 1960s. She has campaigned for greater diversity within the publishing and arts industries throughout her career.

          5. Who hosts the Tech Brains Talk podcast, providing insights and advice to entrepreneurs and companies?

            Clara Amfo. She is a British radio and television presenter, best known for presenting on BBC Radio 1. She competed in the eighteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2020.

            6. Who founded Neu Robotics, an early-stage advanced robotics lab?

              Andy Davis. He is an angel investor and founder of 10X10- a group of Black founders and investors in the UK. He invests at pre-seed on Atomico’s Angel Programme focused on diverse and Black founders.
